Welcome to Tube8's new design. We're extremely proud of the work we've done to pimp out Tube8 and give it its 2010 look!

Prior to making the switch we asked the Tube8 Community to lay it on us (their opinion, that is). Thank you to everyone who took time to give us their honest feedback on Tube8's new design. We had an incredible response and we'd like to share the results with you, starting with the beautifully colored graph ;)

The responses we received were mostly positive. We're pumped you're digging it as much as we do! We broke down the responses into 3 categories: Positive, Negative and Constructive. Messages were considered Positive if they were "Good job" type messages, while Constructive were generally positive but provided specific areas where we could have done better. Negative typically consisted of "Keep the old site" and remarks of that nature. We've provided a sampling of your feedback below.

YOUR VOICE MATTERS...

We were thrilled with the large amount of positive messages and relatively low percentage of the negative but we weren't asking for your feedback just so we could pat ourselves on the back! We took the constructive criticism and acted on it by taking the 2 features that received the most comments and addressing them. #1 beef was the white background. To amend the situation we created a tool to let users choose. Just below the "My Videos" tab is a selector for black or white - it's your choice! In time we will create a setting for this so that it saves your preference for logged-in members. For now you may need to set it each time you visit. The number 2 issue was your desire to see the Rating Stars. We answered your call and added rating stars to the image where we already displayed the video duration.

Its too white/clear and light. I like the good ol' dark, black and red better. The white bg is too bright and in a dark room gives me headache.
I mean, otherwise its pretty nice, but too bright."

Paradisewaits said - "I like being able to see the ratings when I'm scrolling down the newest videos. I would like to see the ratings stay w/o having to scroll over the video to see them. Other than that, it's a good-looking clean site and I appreciate more vids per page."

Bi87g said - "The new design of tube8 looks very well, but the category overview isn't as good as the previous one, because you can't see the latest videos. Maybe you can change this issue."

8Classic8 said - "First off, thanks for the amazing tube8 server, this is by far the best tube site available on the net. I also like the new design as well, the thumbnail vids expanding is a nice feature, and the category section looks good as well. Only minor issue I found, was the disappearance of "My Favorites"...i like how on the regular site, the "favorites" link is on the home page. I often add to my favorites sections and watch vids from there, so I believe a link is necessary on the home page of the new design. Thanks."

Dmwtx said - "One of the features I like the best is being able to scan the page and look at the ratings given by other members. I'm sad to see that with the new design you have to hover over the video to see the rating. :( "

NEGATIVE:

Raoulfazool said - "Don't like the new format. Tube 8 had a very distinctive and bold look which set it apart from all the others and had instant recognition. You will be losing all of that with this new design. Why look like everyone else?"

TheLegacy said - "I personally do not like the new design at all. Sure, it won't stop me from coming to the site but I would rather keep the original design. It seems to be easier to find videos and navigate throughout the site. Maybe I have to test it for a little bit. Maybe the new one will be easier but for now, i'm good with the original. I do like that "Tube8" logo with the snow falling. That's creative! :)"

What comes next?

Along with the feedback we received about the design we've been collecting comments from our members through this New Design Preview and for a few months now. We've got say; there have been some pretty rad suggestions. Between what you've thrown at us and a few things we dreamed up ourselves, here are a few things you can look forward to in 2010.

Comments - New tools to help mediate comments. We all want to see relevant comments at the top and have immature nonsense pushed to the bottom. We are working on some options for this.
Featured Uploaders - Let's recognize the people are providing all this great Tube8 content!
Uploading/Converting/Activating - A new system that clearly identifies and messages you about where your video is on its way to becoming live on the site is needed.
Sorting - More options for sorting and ranking videos. Better options for sorting the My Favorites section. New convention for dates using dates instead of "4 days ago".
